Hopes

With his Master’s work in Physics complete, Kiefer decided to attempt his first bodybuilding contest. Many times before, he combined diet and exercise, hoping to expose a set of washboard abs. All prior attempts ended in failure. He decided this would be his last attempt.

At the time, the only diet with any promise of dropping body fat levels to minimum was the ultralow-carb diet. Other amateur bodybuilders chose a low-fat, ultralow-carb diet, but research showed that high levels of dietary fat are important for preserving as much muscle as possible, while losing the greatest amount of body fat. He ate nothing but eggs, ground beef, chicken, cheeses, and oils.

The Very First Carb Nite™

Sticking to the diet became difficult after the first week, but he continued for five more. Then, late one night, he had a run in with a couple of dozen donuts. The smell of those warm, freshly made Krispy Kremes® overwhelmed his conviction and he slipped into a mindless feeding frenzy. Within minutes, 20 donuts disappeared. Shortly after emerging from the zombie-like state, he was curled in the fetal position, moaning. The stomachache lasted the rest of the evening.

Discovery

The next morning, after collecting himself and recommitting to his preparation, he noticed a little bloating; otherwise, the damage was minor. He returned to the regimen of meats, cheeses and oils. By the next day signs of the donut disaster had disappeared. On the third morning a rush of excitement hit. The first ever appearance of his abs made it clear, he was ahead of schedule— further along than he’d ever dreamed. Repeating a more controlled, less painful variation of the donut disaster once a week, he achieved the chiseled physique needed to win the contest. The Carb Nite™ Solution was born.
